Machynlleth is the ancient capital of Wales and is now a leading centre for light industry and environmental technology.
The Dyfi Valley lies in the centre of Wales with access by road or rail. Machynlleth is situated just south of the Snowdonia National Park. Machynlleth, has a town population of about 2300 but, as ‘The Town’ of the Dyfi Valley, it has a far larger associated population. Machynlleth Town council was born out of the former Machynlleth Urban District Council in 1974. The Chain worn by Machynlleth’s mayors since then was, in the days of the UDC, the Chain of office for the Chair of the UDC.
